Chris was born and raised in Hawaii, then traveled to Montana and California following educational goals before finally landing in his home state of Alaska in 1995. While in California, Chris received his Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Humboldt State University (HSU). While at HSU, he served as the director of Community Companions, a division of the National Compeer Program, which provides a social service to chronically mentally ill adults. Shortly after moving to Alaska, Chris began training at Alaska Pacific University (APU) toward his Master of Science in Counseling Psychology degree, graduating in 1999. He returned to graduate school in 2011, received a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from APU in 2014, and is a licensed Psychologist. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings including inpatient and outpatient environments, and private practice. Chris has experience providing individual, couple's, family, and group therapies as well as assessment and consultation services, though his current practice focuses on individual and couple's therapy. Though Chris provides therapy related to a wide variety of issues, he specializes in the areas of relationships and human sexuality. In addition to providing therapy and assessment services, Chris is an adjunct instructor at APU for the undergraduate and graduate psychology department.
Chris’s current professional memberships include the American Psychological Association, the Alaska Psychological Association (AK-PA), and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). He is one of two Alaska residents who hold a certification in Sex Therapy from AASECT.
Regarding public service, he is a past president of the Alaska Counseling Association (the Alaska chapter of the American Counseling Association) and a past section leader representing Alaska within AASECT. Chris is a former board member of AK-PA, having served as its Public Education Coordinator. He has also served on the State of Alaska licensing board for Psychologists and Psychological Examiners.
When he’s not working, Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, traveling, and enjoying all the outdoor activities that Alaska has to offer.
