ADAA (The Anxiety Disorders Association of America): A nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety disorders and to improve the lives of all people who suffer from them. www.adaa.org
NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness): The largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with serious mental illness and their families. This large site provides many resources for the general public as well as opportunities for advocacy. www.nami.org NIMH: The National Institute of Mental Health seeks to reduce the burden of mental illness and behavioral disorders through research on mind, brain, and behavior. This site has a wealth of information about a range of mental health issues. www.nimh.nih.gov |
Professional SitesAASECT (The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists): The main organization supporting professionals in the field of sexology. This site also provides information about human sexuality and sexology for the general public. www.aasect.org
ACA (The American Counseling Association): An organization dedicated to the growth and development of the counseling profession. This site contains information mostly geared toward supporting the counseling profession, with some helpful information for the general public. www.counseling.org The State of Alaska Division of Corporations, Businesses, and Professional Licensing: The state entity that’s responsible for licensing and oversight of professionals, including the LPC license that Chris holds. www.commerce.state.ak.us/occ/ppco.htm APA (The American Psychological Association): A scientific and professional organization that represents psychology in the United States. This very large site provides many resources for both professionals and the general public. www.apa.org Sexual Issues AASECT (The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists): An organization supporting professionals in the field of sexology. This site also provides some information about human sexuality and sexology for the general public. www.aasect.org ASHA: The American Social Health Association is a non-profit organization that has advocated on behalf of patients to help improve public health outcomes since 1914. This site contains a wealth of information about sexually transmitted diseases. www.ashastd.org The Kinsey Institute: Founded by Alfred Kinsey, Ph.D., whose life as a sexologist was featured in the film Kinsey. The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University promotes interdisciplinary research and scholarship in the fields of human sexuality, gender, and reproduction. www.indiana.edu/~kinsey/index.html Planned Parenthood: Planned Parenthood health centers offer sexual and reproductive health care, including family planning, gynecological care, STI/STD testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and abortion services. The site also provides helpful information regarding sexual health. www.plannedparenthood.org Sex Etc.: Sex Etc. is an award-winning national magazine and website on sexual health that is written by teens, for teens. It’s part of the Center for Applied Psychology at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. www.sexetc.org SIECUS: The Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States. SIECUS advocates for the right of all people to have accurate information, comprehensive education about sexuality, and sexual health services. www.siecus.org TWSHF (The Women's Sexual Health Foundation): TWSHF supports a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of sexual health issues and serves as an educational resource for both the general public and healthcare professionals. The site provides information pertinent to women’s sexual health. www.twshf.org Substance Use Akeela: A drug and alcohol treatment center in Anchorage offering residential and outpatient treatments. www.akeela.org Alaska Division of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse: A State of Alaska entity offering research and a referral service. www.hss.state.ak.us/dada/default.htm National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence: A national organization offering a toll free hotline, education, information and referrals. www.ncadd.org 12 Step Groups: Alcoholics Anonymous www.aa.org, Narcotics Anonymous www.na.org, Cocaine Anonymous www.ca.org, Codependents Anonymous www.codependents.org.
